What should I know before I arrive?

Details checked October 24, 2026

Plan one part of the island per day, because Jeju is large and the best sights are spread along its coast. This itinerary is a plan built from official listings, not a record of a trip. Distances and travel times between regions were not confirmed on the official pages, so check a map app for each move.

  • Closing days to avoid: Visit Jeju lists Seongsan Ilchulbong as closed on the first Monday of every month, and Manjanggul on the first Wednesday. The next ones are November 2 and 4, 2026.
  • Seasonal hours: Seongsan Ilchulbong runs on seasonal hours, so an early-winter visit closes an hour earlier than an October one (see the table below).
  • Getting around: Our Jeju without a car guide compares express buses, the 810 and 820 tourist shuttles, taxis and tours.
  • Season: Autumn colour and November cold affect what to pack; see Korea in November: weather and packing.

What should I do on day 1 in Jeju City?

Keep day one light with Yongduam Rock and Dongmun Market, both close to the airport. The VisitKorea: attractions near the airport course lists Arario Museum Tapdong Cinema, Dongmun Traditional Market, Yongduam Rock and Iho Tewoo Beach over about 9.8 km, with no travel times given.

  1. Afternoon: Yongduam Rock. A dragon-head-shaped rock on the coast near Jeju International Airport. Visit Jeju: Yongduam Rock lists it as open at all times, free to view, and says to watch it only from the designated trail. Nearby are Yongyeon Pond and the Yongdam–Dodu Coastal Road.
  2. Evening: Dongmun Market. Visit Jeju: Traditional Permanent Markets in Jeju City gives the address as 16 Dongmun-ro and describes a noodle alley upstairs serving pork noodles and anchovy broth noodles. It lists no hours, so call 064-722-3284 to confirm.
  3. Optional: Iho Tewoo Beach. The VisitKorea course describes it as the beach closest to downtown Jeju City, known for its horse-shaped lighthouse.

Practical example: a traveller landing at midday can drop bags in Jeju City, see Yongduam in the afternoon and eat at the market, then go to bed early for the east-coast start.

What should I do on day 2 on the east coast?

Pair Manjanggul Lava Tube in the morning with Seongsan Ilchulbong in the afternoon, and check both closing days first. Both are listed on Visit Jeju and both close for one day each month.

  1. Morning: Manjanggul Lava Tube. Visit Jeju: Manjanggul Lava Tube lists 09:00 to 18:00 with ticket sales ending at 17:00 and closing on the first Wednesday of every month. Visitors use Entrance 2 and walk about 1 km of a cave that runs roughly 7.4 km. The page lists no admission fee, so call 064-710-7903.
  2. Afternoon: Seongsan Ilchulbong. A UNESCO-listed tuff cone in Seongsan-eup. Visit Jeju says the summit climb takes about 30 to 40 minutes with many stairs, and outside food is not allowed (Visit Jeju: Seongsan Ilchulbong). VisitKorea lists 5,000 won for adults and 2,500 won for teenagers and children, with last ticketing one hour before closing (VisitKorea: Seongsan Ilchulbong).
  3. Option: Sunrise. Seongsan opens at 05:00 in March, April, September and October, 04:30 from May to August and 06:00 from November to February, so a sunrise climb means a pre-dawn start. Look up sunrise time for your date.

What should I do on day 3 in Seogwipo?

Spend the last day on the south coast with Oedolgae Rock and Cheonjiyeon Falls, both in Seogwipo. The two sit close together in the Seohong-dong area according to their listed addresses.

  1. Morning: Oedolgae Rock. A 20 m sea stack, listed as open 24 hours year-round and located along Jeju Olle Trail Route 7. Visit Jeju: Oedolgae Rock also mentions Seonnyeo Rock behind it. The page does not state a fee.
  2. Afternoon or evening: Cheonjiyeon Falls. Visit Jeju: Cheonjiyeon Falls lists 09:00 to 22:00 with last admission at 21:20, and notes that visiting after dark is possible, with different scenery than by day. It lists no fee or closing days, so confirm on the page.

Can I fit Hallasan into three days?

Only as a swap for day three, and only on a shorter trail unless you have booked a summit slot. Visit Jeju: Hallasan National Park says advance reservations are required for the Baengnokdam summit via Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa, while Eorimok, Yeongsil and Donnaeko trails need none and lead to Witse Oreum or Nambyeok Junction, not the summit.

What do the main stops cost and when are they closed?

Only Seongsan Ilchulbong has a fee confirmed in these sources, at 5,000 won for adults. The table shows what each page lists; "not listed" means you should confirm with the contact on the official page.

If Visit Jeju and VisitKorea differ, as they do on Seongsan's fee, treat the more specific page as a guide and confirm at the gate.

What if it rains or a stop is closed?

Swap days rather than dropping a stop, because the three regions are independent.

FAQ

Is three days enough for Jeju?

It is enough for one region per day. This plan covers Jeju City, the east coast and Seogwipo. Jeju is large and local buses can be infrequent, so adding Hallasan or the west coast needs extra days.

Do I need a rental car for this itinerary?

Not strictly, but allow extra time. Express buses, the 810 and 820 tourist shuttles, taxis and tours can cover the sights; our Jeju without a car guide compares them. Check bus times in a map app before each move.

When are Seongsan Ilchulbong and Manjanggul closed?

Visit Jeju lists Seongsan Ilchulbong as closed on the first Monday of every month and Manjanggul on the first Wednesday. After October 24, 2026 that means November 2 and 4, then December 7 and 2.

How much does it cost to climb Seongsan Ilchulbong?

VisitKorea lists 5,000 won for adults and 2,500 won for teenagers and children. Visit Jeju says the summit trail is the paid section but gives no price, so confirm at the ticket office.

Do I need a reservation to hike Hallasan?

Only for the summit. Visit Jeju says advance reservations are required for Baengnokdam, while Eorimok, Yeongsil and Donnaeko trails need none. Book summit slots through the official Hallasan reservation system.
